RSI Indicator Mastery
Divergence, Trend Strength & Strategies
RSI is not a buy/sell button. It is a momentum + trend strength engine. This module will teach you RSI from beginner to advanced using simulations: divergence, breakout confirmation, RSI trendline shift and RSI + EMA workflow.
Module Outcomes
Module 9 Lesson Map
RSI is the most misunderstood indicator in the market. This module will make you trade RSI like a pro.
RSI Candle Simulation (Trend, Divergence & Breakout)
Select a scenario and observe how RSI behaves with price. Learn divergence, trend strength and breakout confirmation.
RSI Scenarios
📌 RSI below 45 = bearish trend strength
📌 RSI above 80 or below 20 = extreme momentum zone
Lesson 1: RSI Definition + History
RSI is a momentum oscillator that measures strength of price movement.
RSI (Relative Strength Index) is a momentum indicator created by J. Welles Wilder Jr. in 1978. RSI measures the speed and strength of recent gains vs recent losses.
Key RSI Features
- RSI range is always 0 to 100
- Default period is 14
- RSI is a momentum engine, not a trend indicator
Lesson 2: RSI Calculation Logic
RSI compares average gain vs average loss.
RSI Formula
- RS = Average Gain / Average Loss
- RSI = 100 - (100 / (1 + RS))
Lesson 3: RSI Zones (20 / 80)
20/80 zones show extreme momentum, not immediate reversal.
Extreme Zone Meaning
- RSI above 80 = extreme bullish momentum (not automatic sell)
- RSI below 20 = extreme bearish momentum (not automatic buy)
- RSI can remain extreme for long time in strong trend
Lesson 4: Trend Strength Zones (55 / 45)
55/45 zones filter weak trends and reduce fake breakouts.
Trend Strength Concept
- RSI above 55 = bullish trend strength zone
- RSI below 45 = bearish trend strength zone
- Best for swing + intraday confirmation setups
Lesson 5: RSI 50 Trend Filter Rule
50 line is the simplest professional trend filter in RSI.
50 Line Interpretation
- RSI above 50 → bullish momentum bias
- RSI below 50 → bearish momentum bias
- RSI around 50 → sideways market / no clear trend
Lesson 6: RSI Divergence (Bullish / Bearish)
Divergence is a warning signal. Entry requires confirmation.
Bearish Divergence
- Price makes higher high
- RSI makes lower high
- Momentum weakens → reversal probability rises
Bullish Divergence
- Price makes lower low
- RSI makes higher low
- Selling pressure weakens → reversal probability rises
Lesson 7: RSI Trendline Strategy (Advanced)
RSI trendline break often happens before price reversal.
How to Draw RSI Trendline
- Connect RSI swing lows (bullish trendline)
- Connect RSI swing highs (bearish trendline)
- Minimum 2 touches required
- More touches = stronger RSI trendline
Lesson 8: RSI Breakout Confirmation
Breakout is stronger only when RSI confirms momentum strength.
Bullish Breakout Confirmation
- Price breaks resistance with strong candle close
- RSI should move above 55
- RSI should hold above 50 after breakout
Bearish Breakdown Confirmation
- Price breaks support with strong candle close
- RSI should drop below 45
- RSI should hold below 50 after breakdown
Lesson 9: RSI + EMA Combined Strategy
EMA defines direction. RSI confirms momentum strength. Candle decides entry.
Bullish Setup
- Price above EMA = bullish trend filter
- RSI stays above 55 = bullish strength confirmation
- Pullback into EMA / support zone
- Entry after breakout candle close
Bearish Setup
- Price below EMA = bearish trend filter
- RSI stays below 45 = bearish strength confirmation
- Pullback into EMA / resistance zone
- Entry after breakdown candle close
Lesson 10: RSI Mistakes + Cheat Sheet
Most traders lose because they use RSI as a buy/sell trigger.
Common RSI Mistakes
- RSI above 80 = immediate sell
- RSI below 20 = immediate buy
- Trading divergence without structure break confirmation
- Ignoring 55/45 trend strength zones
- Using RSI in sideways market expecting trend
RSI Cheat Sheet
- RSI > 80: extreme bullish momentum
- RSI < 20: extreme bearish momentum
- RSI > 55: bullish trend strength zone
- RSI < 45: bearish trend strength zone
- RSI > 50: bullish bias
- RSI < 50: bearish bias
